Amnesia
#2 of 50 on the PEAKTIME Club Index · Ibiza, ES · est. 1976 · index score 93.7/100.
Ibiza's heritage temple: Cocoon, the Pyramid, decades of defining the island's serious house & techno nights.
The room
It started as an open-air farmhouse where freaks, hippies and the early Balearic crowd danced under the stars: no roof, just Ibiza. When noise laws forced a roof on in the '90s, the trapped heat created the legendary 'sweat' and the famous ice-cannons and foam. Sven Väth's Cocoon turned it into the global capital of techno Mondays for two decades.
Reputation
Heritage incarnate, the most historically important club on the island. Purists grumble it's grown commercial, but its place in the canon is untouchable.
What makes it singular
Balearic ground zero. The DNA of modern dance music's 'anything goes' mixing was forged on this dancefloor before it ever reached London or Berlin.
Signature nights
Cocoon (Sven Väth) · Pyramid · Música On (Marco Carola)
Iconic sets
Sven Väth's Cocoon openings and closings: era-defining, often pushing 8–10 hours.,Alfredo's Balearic sets in the '80s that shaped the entire 'Ibiza sound' and inspired UK acid house.,Marco Carola's Música On marathons that ran from midnight deep into the next afternoon.
Capacity: ≈ 5,000 (two rooms) · Origin: Originally a finca; reborn as a club in 1976
